Dakar hosted on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, the meeting of actors and regulators of the sub-regional financial market as well as members of the Senegalese judiciary, including magistrates and lawyers. They have been sensitized as part of the new uniform law of the West African Monetary Union (UMOA) relating to stock market offenses.

The awareness-raising workshop is a continuation of awareness-raising days on the Uniform Law on Securities Offences within the UMOA. The launch of this regulation took place in Cotonou on July 15, 2022, followed by the stages of Abidjan on October 3, 2022, Bamako and Lomé on November 2, 2022, Ouagadougou on November 7, 2022, and Niamey on November 8, 2022. According to the organizers, this new legal provision aims in particular to make “the repression of criminal conduct” effective on the financial market by establishing a “range of proportionate and dissuasive sanctions”.

According to a document given to participants, this workshop should focus on the expected collaboration between the judicial authorities and the Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets of the UMOA (CREMPF) with a view to an effective and efficient application of the uniform law.
