Scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2024, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) announced the launch of the pilot phase of the interoperable instant payment system of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

La BCEAO indicated in a note that “the implementation of this platform will make it possible to offer a wide range of services, aimed at simplifying the daily transactions of users and stimulating financial innovation. Whether the account is held with a bank, an electronic money issuer, a microfinance institution or a payment institution connected to the interoperable system, users will now be able to make transfers and payments to the account of their beneficiaries, even if the beneficiary's financial institution is different from that of the sender.” According to him, this decisive step reflects its commitment to set up an interoperable instant payment system, operational continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, capable of processing transactions of any kind, regardless of the type of account
