Members of the National Transitional Council (CNT) of Guinea approved in plenary session last Monday a loan of 60 million euros ($65.03 million) from the French Development Agency (AFD) for the project to improve the Access to electricity in forest Guinea (PAAEGF

).

The PAAEGF is part of the National Programme to Improve Access to Electricity at a Lower Cost (PNAAEMC), initiated by the government, which aims at universal access to electricity at the lowest cost. By 2030. This project comes in a context where Guinea has suffered repeated power cuts since the beginning of 2024 due to a deficit in electricity production. A failure at the Tombo thermal power plant and an uncertain rainy season have reduced available energy by 75%, forcing the national company, EDG, to ration electricity for households and

businesses.

It should be noted that the repayment term of this loan is twenty (20) years with a grace period of seven (7) years, starting from the date of signature. The amount will be disbursed in several installments
