The Guinean agricultural sector will soon benefit from $100 million in funding from the World Bank. The objective is to improve rural productivity.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Oumar Barry indicated in a Xinhua publication that this funding is part of the continuity of the government program aimed at implementing the development of commercial agriculture in Guinea, in order to ensure self-sufficiency and security food. This project aims to increase the productivity of the commercial agricultural sector to facilitate its marketing at the national, sub-regional and global

levels.

Although Guinea has a lot of arable land, the agricultural sector only contributes to 25% of its GDP, according to data from the French Treasury.

According to Mr. Barry, this financing will also allow the private sector to bring its expertise and know-how to the agricultural sector in order to increase its share in the national economy, which is 20% between 2018 and 2020, according to the 2021 report of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
