La Banque africaine de développement ( Bad ) has just released the report on the textile sector in Benin to sector actors and other decision-makers on Wednesday 31 July in

The AfDB report is entitled “Boosting the textile sector in Benin”. It projects the evolution towards a more dynamic, inclusive, diversified and innovative textile manufacturing sector. According to the institution, “the two sub-sectors observed in this study, namely the cotton fiber sector and the pineapple leaf fiber sector, present significant potential”. According to Nathalie Adikpéto Daouda, consultant, under the general supervision of Tankien Dayo, Principal Country Economist for Benin, “benefiting from the full economic and social potential of the textile industry in Benin will be possible thanks to the implementation of a voluntary strategy to industrialize production, valorization and distribution processes...”. According to him, the sector has all the potential to absorb a large proportion of the unemployed and create jobs for young people

The report suggests that the State should adopt an integrated development plan for the cotton textile sector and entrust the management of the sector to an agency that will specialize in the textile industrial value chain. This will make it possible to guide, coordinate, encourage and facilitate action on the priorities for the development of the sector's ecosystem.
