In order to promote the implementation of the Project to Support the Promotion of Agro-ecological Farmers in Togo (ProSMAT), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has provided new financial support to the country's agricultural sector.

The financing agreement in the amount of 2.4 million USD, or about 1.5 billion FCFA, was signed at the end of last week between IFAD and the Togolese Coordination of Farmers' Organizations and Agricultural Producers -CTOP for the support & agrave; the promotion of Agroecological Gardening. This will allow Togo to pursue its policy of food security and the sustainability of agricultural practices. Through ProsMat, CTOP intends to provide technical support to market gardeners in 16 prefectures in the country's six agricultural regions, particularly in the adoption of agroecological production practices. This is in order to improve the yields and quality of vegetables, while reducing soil and water pollution. The project will also focus on initiatives aimed at reducing post-harvest losses, and facilitating the marketing of agroecological vegetable products

noted that in mid-July, IFAD had also released $30 million to develop this sector in Senegal.
