U.S. gold futures gained 0.5% to $1,990.10. Spot gold was up 0.6% at $1,988.29 per ounce at 0133 GMT. The dollar remained near its lowest level in two and a half months, with investors expecting US interest rates to fall next year.
For other metals, cash rose 1% to $23.64 per ounce, platinum was stable at $918.59, while palladium fell 0.2% to $1,076.26.
