The Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering (Giaba) has released its 2023 annual report noting that Benin has made significant progress in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

In the 2023 Giaba report it is stated that “to a very large extent, Benin has fulfilled the requirements of targeted financial sanctions measures applicable to the financing of terrorism”. This recognition of Benin's efforts in this fight is sufficient proof that the country is on the right track with its instruments to combat these crimes. The procedure has been that all Giaba member states that have been assessed are subject, to varying degrees, to a compliance monitoring process that starts with the submission of follow-up reports at defined periodic intervals, high-level advocacy missions and the publication of public statements
