Dakar hosted a workshop on Wednesday 23 October last year on the challenges of the public procurement system and the opportunities of public auditing in the health sector.

“Dialogue on the challenges of the public procurement system and the opportunities of public auditing in the health sector” is the title of the Dakar meeting. The workshop was attended by officials, representatives of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (ARCOP), the Court of Auditors, as well as civil society actors, members of journalists' associations and various experts and specialists. The main manager of the Budget Credibility Program at the NGO International Budget Partnership (IBP) Senegal, Assiatou Diop said that they had to talk “about the performance of our public finances, especially at the sectoral level, especially at the sectoral level, especially in the health system”. This meeting was organized with the aim of developing an action plan to improve the public procurement system in the sanitation and health sectors, taking into account the specific challenges raised during the discussions of actors.

According to a document given to participants, “Senegal has been undertaking profound reforms in the management of its public finances for several years in order to strengthen the effectiveness of public defense, improve governance and achieve sustainable development goals.” The main objective of these reforms is to ensure better management of public resources while examining the impact of spending on the economic and social development of the country.
