The dollar held steady at its highest level in a year, while the rupee began another day of historic decline on Thursday. The South African rand is stable after major losses.

The US dollar extended its overall rally early on Friday, reaching its highest level in a year, as the hawkish position of the head of the Federal Reserve boosted short-term Treasury yields, leaving Wall Street in the red and most Asian markets in trouble. On the currency markets, the dollar reached its highest level in a year against its main counterparts. It gained five days on the yen, rising another 0.2% to 156.56, its highest level since July

.

The euro suffered heavy losses at 1.0529 dollars and is expected to lose 1.77% per week. The minutes of the last meeting of the European Central Bank showed that last month's reduction was probably an insurance measure.

The South African rand was stable at the start of the day on Thursday after experiencing turbulence in the days following Donald Trump's victory in the American elections, before mining production data for September. At 0803 GMT, the rand was trading at 18.2400 against the dollar, close to its previous close of

18.2450.

The Indian rupee is expected to fall to an all-time low on Thursday in the wake of the dollar and US rates continuing to rise after the US elections. The one-month undeliverable futures contract indicates that the rupee will open at 84.42-84.44 for the US dollar compared to 84.3775 in the previous session and after the all-time low of 84.4125

reached on Tuesday.
