The International Monetary Fund (IMF) plans to examine in detail the report recently published by the Senegal Court of Auditors. He also announced Wednesday, February 12, 2025, that he would engage in discussions with the Senegalese authorities in order to study the issues raised in this document

La Cour des comptes à publish the “Audit of the report on the state of public finances; Managements from 2019 to 31 March 2024", at the request of the authorities who have run the country since 2024. According to the information in the document, the amount of Senegal's public debt at the end of 2023 was equal to 99.67% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), far from the 73.6% announced by the government of the time and the 83.7% mentioned in a preliminary report by the Ministry of Finance and Budget in 2024. The work of the Court of Auditors on the overall situation of public finances, in particular the implementation of the general budget and the special accounts of the Treasury, as well as debt and cash flow [...] led to the main findings. These include: “draws on external resources greater than those shown in the government report (a preliminary report by the government led by Ousmane Sonko); debt outstanding greater than that shown in the government report; cash flow greater than those indicated” by the Ministry of Finance and Budget, note the authors of the audit conducted by the Court of Auditors.

An IMF spokesperson reaffirmed in an email reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting Senegal in its economic reforms. According to him, “the IMF remains determined to support the authorities to move forward.”
