A note from the World Bank subsidiary dedicated to the private sector mentions that the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is considering setting up an unsecured Islamic credit facility of a maximum amount of 40 million euros ($44.6 million) in favor of the Islamic Bank of Senegal (BIS).

The IFC credit facility aims to promote the growth of the agricultural and trade sectors in a context where Islamic finance remains underdeveloped in West Africa. This investment is offered for a maximum period of 5 years with a grace period of 2 years. It will allow BIS to extend its Sharia-compliant financing offers, in particular to Senegalese micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs

) that struggle to access traditional banking services.

This financing could thus stimulate inclusive growth, especially in strategic sectors such as agriculture and trade. Ce financement, en attente d' approbation par le conseil d' administration de la SFI (prévu pour le 9 mai 2025), représente une opportunité pour combler le déficit d' inclusion financière dans un pays à majorité musulmane (plus de 90%) où la Finances

Islamic remains poorly developed.
