La Commission nigériane de lutte contre la corruption and Economic Crimes (EFCC) announced on Friday that a Nigerian court has ordered the seizure of several dozen properties in Lagos linked to ; Chinese nationals suspected of internet fraud, in particular romantic fraud

The EFCC reported that the court “ordered the interim confiscation of 73 properties and 1,596 laptop computers recovered from the Chinese involved. in cyberterrorism and internet fraud.” According to the information, these nationals “are members of a group of 792 alleged suspects of romantic fraud and cryptocurrency investments, arrested on December 10, 2024.” At least 192 of the suspects were foreign nationals, including 148 Chinese, according to EFCC. All of these suspects were arrested in a single operation in the upscale neighborhood of Victoria Island in Lagos. Thousands of cell phones, hundreds of bunk beds, and over 400 freezers were also seized.
