On 9 May, the Chadian justice system sentenced Idriss Youssouf Boy, the former chief of staff of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and his co-accused, the businessman About Hassan Bouder, and his co-accused, the businessman About Hassan Bouder, to five years in prison for active corruption and abuse of office. The two men will also each have to pay a fine of one million CFA francs (more than 1,700 US dollars). The public prosecutor in N'Djamena had requested a sentence of ten years in prison against the two defendants, while the three other defendants in the same case were declared not guilty. Idriss Youssouf Boy has denied the accusations against him outright, despite the overwhelming testimony. However, he recognizes a “loan” of one billion francs (more than 1.7 million dollars) from a company belonging to the businessman.
