A regional workshop of the Trust Fund for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) opened on Tuesday 20 May under the chairmanship of Yvon Detchenou, Beninese Minister of Justice and Legislation, chaired by Yvon Detchenou, Beninese Minister of Justice and Legislation, in the presence of Jürg Lauber, President of& nbsp; United Nations Human Rights Council, and a representative of Beninese diplomacy

.

The appointment, which ends on Thursday, May 22, 2025, embodies Benin's commitment to raising the voice of African nations loudly in the global concert. It is a melting pot of ideas and ambitions for the defense of human rights. Yvon Detchenou, Beninese Minister of Justice and Legislation, established this workshop as a natural extension of Benin's re-election to the Human Rights Council in 2024, after a first term started in 2022 in his inaugural speech. This workshop, the first of its kind in Africa since 2021, also brings together delegates from 14 countries, including Angola, Burkina Faso, Maldives and Madagascar. It also aims to strengthen the capacities of States to engage in UN mechanisms, while strengthening their advocacy for universal human rights. In Cotonou, discussions focus on crucial issues: the fight against reprisals against defenders of human rights, access to justice for women and minorities, and the integration of human rights into climate policies

.

Cet atelier est organisé avec le soutien de l' Union Interparlementaire et de l' ONU et reflète l' engagement panafricain du Benin , illustrated by its active participation in the 2021 Cotonou Declaration on Human Rights Defenders
