The President of the National Assembly announced on May 21, 2025 that the Minister of Justice of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Constant Mutamba, will be heard by a commission on the suspicion of embezzlement of nearly $20 million.

Justice is seeking authorization to prosecute the current Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba. He is suspected of embezzling funds intended for the construction of a prison in Kisangani. On Wednesday, the Court of Cassation asked the National Assembly to allow the opening of a judicial investigation and to lift the parliamentary immunity of Mr. Mutamba, 37, a minister but also a deputy elected

“We are going to ask the various presidents of parliamentary groups to nominate, in writing, today, a member who will be part of the committee that will hear the Minister of Justice”, declared the President of the Assembly, Vital Kamerhe.

The NGO Transparency International reported that cases of embezzlement of public funds are frequent in the Central African country where the corruption perception index is one of the worst in the world.
