The Deputy Director General of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) said Thursday in Dakar that Senegal has adopted a new Building and Public Works Cost Index (IBTP) allowing the regulation of public procurement and improvement contract negotiations in this sector.

The Building and Public Works Cost Index is much more than a simple indicator, beyond monitoring the economic situation (...) in the service of regulating public procurement and improving contractual negotiations in the construction sector, according to the CEO of ANSD. According to the latter, with this structuring initiative, “Senegal has taken a new step forward with the expansion of this index to cover all construction activities, thus meeting the growing expectations of actors in the sector”. According to the Deputy Director General, Abdou Diouf, this “governance and management instrument” is the result of two years of work by ANDS experts after the one published in 2015 relating to residential buildings. He chaired the official opening of the workshop to disseminate the Buildings and Public Works Index (IBTP) in the presence of actors in the sector, representatives of consumer associations and partner structures

.

According to him, “this tool, in addition to allowing the monitoring of the economic situation in the construction sector, is also an instrument using public procurement governance since it makes it possible to facilitate negotiations between the various actors in public procurement, especially when it comes to revising prices”.
