During the executive session of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA) held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in Casablanca, Nigerian senator Jimoh Ibrahim reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu's commitment to the African Atlantic gas pipeline. This $25 billion strategic project aims to strengthen West African energy integration and to consolidate the partnership between Rabat and Abuja in a dynamic of sustainable South-South cooperation

.

Mega-energy project, the future Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, 5,660 kilometers long, plans to transport up to 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, crossing 13 countries in West Africa, from Nigeria to Morocco. The pipeline route covers Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ghana, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Ivory Coast, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and Morocco, which alone will host 1,672 kilometers

of pipes.

This project aims to supply energy to nearly 400 million people, while promoting the creation of thousands of jobs and stimulating industrial and digital development in the region. President Tinubu, according to Senator Ibrahim, has launched an audit of previously abandoned energy projects, with the aim of accelerating

their completion.

The Moroccan Minister for Energy Transition, Leila Benali, confirmed in May that feasibility and engineering studies have been finalized and that the optimal pipeline layout has now been validated. A joint company between Morocco and Nigeria is being created to pilot the final investment decision, expected by the end of the year.

With this in mind, Morocco launched a call for tenders in April for the establishment of a national gas infrastructure, connecting the port of Nador to Kenitra and Mohammedia, then to Mohammedia, then to Dakhla, in order to interconnect to the Atlantic gas pipeline.

The project is supported by several international donors, including the United Arab Emirates, the European Investment Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, and the OPEC Fund. In addition, the Chinese group Jingye Steel won the contract to supply the necessary pipes
