Four private solar and wind projects in Egypt, with a combined capacity of 400 MW, have been approved by the government under the new private-private partnership (P2P) framework that allows independent power producers to provide electricity directly to industrial customers.

The projects worth a total of 388 million USD will be supported by Neptune, AMEA Power, Taqa PV and Enara Energy Services. In particular, they will supply El Sewedy Steel, AP Moller (Canal de Suez Containers), Befar Group, Ezz Steel, Helwan Fertilizers and Alamein Silicon Products, from solar or hybrid power plants combining solar and

wind power plants.

Officially awarded on Wednesday 28 May by Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat, these certificates are part of the “Private to Private” (P2P) system, which allows green energy producers to sell their electricity to companies via the national grid, paying transit fees.

This state-supported mechanism aims to liberalize the electricity market and attract private investments in the energy transition. It offers manufacturers competitive access to low-carbon energy, which is essential for meeting the climate requirements of their international customers and greening their value chains
