Nigeria needed 3.2 million metric tons of fish per year to meet local demand, according to a statement from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The organization said that the country only produces about 1.2 million metric tons, leaving a significant deficit of 2 million metric tons that is currently being filled by imports. per year.”

Globally, FAO is strengthening farmers' capacities and value chains in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, improving food availability and production through technical expertise, global knowledge sharing, and solutions innovative.
