In order to finance the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Mobility Project in Abidjan (PMUA), the Islamic Development Bank (BID) approved a financing of 200 million euros (approximately 234 million USD).

The PMUA aims to thoroughly modernise the city's public transport system, with a focus on reducing urban congestion, improving accessibility and promoting ecological transport. According to the Ivorian authorities, this project meets the ambition of making Abidjan a modern, inclusive and competitive metropolis, in line with the economic challenges of the West African region. An ideal that has urban mobility as a strategic lever.

The funds are intended, according to the bank, in particular to strengthen transport efficiency along the Yopougon - Bingerville corridor and its service lines. They are part of a participatory mechanism involving several technical and financial partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank (BAD) and the French Development Agency (AFD

).

The project is structured around four main components. There is the development of a bus line with a high level of service (BRT) that will connect Yopougon (the most populated town west of Abidjan) over 20 km to Bingerville in the eastern periphery, via the Plateau, the nerve center of business. This corridor should considerably ease traffic on this strategic axis
