The Court for the Suppression of Economic Offences and Terrorism (CRIET) convicted on Wednesday 16 July 2025 a police officer working at the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration (DEI). He was sentenced to eight (8) years of criminal imprisonment

The police officer was convicted of embezzlement of public funds while working in this department responsible for drawing up Beninese passports. He was convicted of embezzlement of public funds at the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration. According to the facts presented by the prosecution, an audit carried out at the Caisse de la Direction de l'Emigration et de l'Immigration (DEI) by the Financial Inspection Commission revealed in September 2019 the disappearance of part of the structure's revenues, in particular one hundred and fifty (150)

The investigation opened for this purpose revealed that the missing funds were used by the person named A.A.C.G., a police officer in charge of the cash desk of the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration (DEI), to acquire various movable and immovable properties, in particular from an economic operator V.C.A.F. and to grant loans to friends and to some colleagues, namely an ex-banker C.B.A.C.
