A capacity building workshop on mobilizing Islamic green finance and developing a legal framework for the creation of a dedicated unit took place from 11 to 14 August 2025 in Cotonou. Officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance took part.

The capacity building workshop was organized with the support of Malaysia and the Standing Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation (Comcec). The objective is to strengthen their skills in mobilizing Islamic green finance and to lay the legal foundations of a specialized unit. This strategic training is part of a triangular cooperation involving Benin, a beneficiary of technical and financial support, Malaysia, an expertise provider, and Comcec, which finances the training. It is intended to equip participants to capture ethical and sustainable resources in the service of national development.

According to Richard François Mekpoh, coordinator of the Programme Management Unit in Benin, “this training is of paramount importance because it will make it possible to understand several concepts and to equip frameworks at various levels to increase the mobilization of Islamic green finance resources”.

For his part, the Director General of Development Finance, Serge Dossou-Yovo, indicates that the workshop marks a decisive step in Benin's desire to diversify its sources of financing.
