Le Secrétaire Général de l' Organisation des Nations Unies (ONU) prenait la parole à l' ouverture du 36e African Union summit this Saturday, February 18, 2023 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, in the presence of some thirty-five heads of state and four heads of government. He called for the creation of a “peace enforcement mission” with guaranteed funding from the UN.

The UN Secretary-General considers it necessary “to act for peace in Africa.” It targets terrorism, insecurity and transitional governments in Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Sudan. Antonio Guterres expressed the availability of the United Nations to fund and support an “African-led peace enforcement mission” to address security challenges on the continent. The UN Secretary-General announced during the ceremony that “Africa needs actions for peace. The United Nations is proud to be a partner in peace in Africa, but our work is becoming more complex every year. Terrorism and insecurity are worsening and there are more conflicts.”
