The 8th edition of the AllAfrica Women Agenda (Awa) was opened March 7, 2023 in Rabat, Morocco. The theme of this edition is “Food Sovereignty: Feeding Africa for Women”.

On the occasion of the ^8th edition of the AllAfrica Women Agenda (Awa), the boss of the AllAfrica Group shared some key information with participants to help them discuss the issue. According to Amadou Mahtar Ba, “according to figures from Banque africaine de développement the, the African continent imports, per year, more than 100 million tons of food worth more than 75 billion dollars. This sum represents almost twice the official development assistance received in the continent in 2022. Another piece of information to help us understand our subject is that nearly 300 million people suffer from hunger every day across the continent, most of them women and children. Unfortunately, that's more than 20% of the total population of the continent.”

According to him, the continent has no choice but to engage in this voice very quickly, especially in view of the recent disruptions caused by the War launched by Russia in Ukraine, but let's not forget that disruptions in food supply chains have also been noted during the Covid-19 pandemic.
