The ceremony to launch the construction of the first CLS carrier neutral datacenter was held on Thursday 16 February in Senegal in the presence of several celebrities. Onix launched its activities in partnership with the La Colombe group.

The new center under construction in Senegal will be built in Les Almadies on an area of 600 m2, at the level of the submarine cable landing station. Its role is to allow Onix customers to have access to high-speed services with almost zero latency. For the CEO of Onix, Mamadou Kébé, the new data center will make it possible to combat the deficit of this technology on the continent.

According to him, “there is a glaring lack of datacenters in Africa. Michael Nahon, CEO of Onix, spoke earlier about 4000 datacenters in the United States and Great Britain, while in Africa, we only have 91, including 55 in South Africa. This means that in the rest of the continent, the lack is obvious. Statistics show that we need 1000 MW of data centers for storage to meet the needs of the African continent.”
