In their intention to raise relations between the two countries to the expected level, Mauritania and Portugal have decided to strengthen their cooperation in the fields political, economic and commercial, in accordance with the political will of the two Governments. It was at the end of the visit that the Portuguese Foreign Minister paid to Mauritania.

A press release published on Saturday, April 15, 2023 mentions that the two heads of diplomacy agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields political, economic and commercial, in accordance with the political will of the two Governments, in order to raise relations between the two countries to the expected level.

They also want to relaunch political consultations, the subject of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 15 June 2010, to develop and deepen cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels. And encourage exchanges of official visits with a view to further strengthening relations between the two countries. With regard to the Multilateral level, the two parties reaffirmed the need to strengthen the commitment of the international community alongside the G5 Sahel to enable this regional organization to meet the challenges that hinder the achievement of its strategic mission in favour of peace, security and development in the subregion
