The National Financial Prosecutor's Office announced on February 7, 2023 that Gemalto is the subject of a judicial investigation opened in France for “corruption” and “criminal association” regarding a dozen government contracts in six African countries. It was bought in April 2019 by the French defense industry group Theleséant. According to the source, the case arose from a report from Tracfin, the financial intelligence unit in Bercy, to open a preliminary investigation.
