SAXX, a hacker and cybersecurity specialist, affirmed on his Twitter account on February 12 that the Malian subsidiary of Bank of Africa (BOA) is the victim of an act of cybercrime.

The hacker announced that “the cyberattack against the Bank Of Africa is perhaps the most monumental to date in Africa! ”. According to him, the BOA was requested the very high sum of 10,000,000 dollars (more than 6.1 billion FCFA). For him, the cybercriminals demanded an amount that proves that they got their hands on the data of other subsidiaries of the financial institution. The expert also believes that “the sample of data available includes total access to the accounts of users and other companies... in Mali, West Africa, and Europe. We also have access to all personal data... (I'll let you imagine the rest)”.

Bank Of Africa Mali released a statement after the attack was announced on social media to deny it. The Bank drew the attention of its customers in these words: “dear customers, social networks report computer hacking within Bank Of Africa's computer systems. If there was indeed an attempt to break into our systems, it was quickly blocked. ” said the Bank and concluded.” “Your personal data has not been affected,” the bank announced.
