The family of the former Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, who died last June, and especially his daughter Isabel dos Santos, is said to have hidden assets in Mauritius. The Attorney General of Angola requested Mauritius to cooperate in tracing and confiscating them.

Isabel dos Santos, once known as the richest woman in Africa, and her late husband Sindika Dokolo, had set up a network of shell companies. This network allowed them to embezzle funds from Angolan companies, money laundering and influence peddling. The Angolan authorities are looking for billions of dollars hidden in several countries and Mauritius is strongly suspected to be one of the countries that have domiciled, or still domiciled, shell companies and bank accounts belonging to Isabel dos Santos, who, incidentally, used to live in Mauritius.

According to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the dos Santos clan has created at least five companies in Mauritius, including Saguaro Management and Silverfields Ltd.
