La Bceao a analyzed the trade situation in UEMOA in its Monthly Bulletin of Statistics. It shows that the UEMOA interbank market recorded a fall in trading volume during the month of January 2023.

The average reference interest rate calculated on the one-week interbank market increased by 14 basis points, from 3.44% in December 2022 to 3.58% in January 2023.” According to the institution, the results of the survey on banking conditions reveal that banks' borrowing interest rates were virtually stable in January 2023 compared with the previous month. Excluding charges and taxes, the debit interest rate in the Union averaged 6.70% in January 2023, compared with 6.71% in December 2022. As for interest rates on fixed-term deposits, they averaged 5.36% in January 2023, compared with 5.33% in December 2022.

The Business Climate Indicator remained above its long-term trend, standing at 101.2 in January, down 0.2 points from the previous month's level.
