Lawyers for the Beninese State sold eighteen (18) properties seized from Sébastien Ajavon through a sale announcement subject to foreclosure dated February 15, 2023.

The announcement for the sale of the properties announces that the auction will take place before the Porto-Novo Court of First Instance on March 14, 2023 at 8:30am. Indeed, the buildings put up for sale at auction are all in Sème-Podji, a town between Cotonou, the economic capital, and Porto-Novo, the political capital. In reality, these properties were seized following legal proceedings against the former ally of President Patrice Talon. It was in March 2021, when the Court for the Suppression of Economic Offences and Terrorism (CRIET) condemned the exiled opponent in France, in absentia to five years in prison. Sébastien Adjavon was found guilty of “forgery, use of forgery and fraud” by the special jurisdiction.
