The launch ceremony of the project to develop solar power plants and improve access to electricity (RANA) was held on 21 February 2023 in Niamey under the chairmanship of the Secretary General Oral of the Ministry of Planning, Saadou Bakoye.

RANA is part of the objective of increasing the production of electricity from renewable sources and improving the sustainable access of Niger's populations to modern energy. This project, with an initial cost of more than 98 billion FCFA, benefits from financial support from the Banque Africaine de Développement to the tune of approximately 83% (99.16 MUC/ 80.97 billion FCFA), accompanied by OFID, the Green Climate Fund and /power USAID Africa. RANA is planned to provide more than 40 MWc of solar-based electricity generation capacity, to develop the electricity grid in urban and rural areas to electrify 186 rural localities, and to build a cluster of mini-grids for 12 other rural localities, resulting in access to electricity for 750,000 people.

The project has three components: the electrical infrastructure covering the development of solar power plants and the improvement of access to electricity; institutional support including the feasibility study& eacute; and support to the sector, the development of human capital and the strengthening of resilience and finally project management including compliance, communication and technical assistance to the UGP.
