During a press briefing held on the afternoon of Friday, February 17, 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Network (REN-LAC) and several anti-corruption and human rights organizations offer their “firm and unwavering” support to the Team of the Higher Authority for State Control and Combating Corruption (ASCE-LC). The Authority was the victim of death threats.

The State Comptroller General (CGE) and his team have been victims of intimidation and death threats in the performance of their duty to fight corruption. To do so, they have received support from several anti-corruption and human rights organizations. Indeed, Philippe Néri Khouton Nion informed on January 12, 2023 that he had received isolated acts aimed at harming his staff. After verifying these proven threats, REN-LAC and its sister organizations “firmly condemn the veiled or open threats against the ASCE-LC team” and support the State Comptroller General and his team.

These civil society organizations stressed the need to protect anti-corruption actors who carry out “public health work against predation of scarce state resources.” Similarly, they call on the government to ensure the protection of ASCE-LC controllers.
