The China donated a patrol vessel to Sierra Leone with the aim of helping the country effectively fight illegal fishing and piracy off the West African coast. The information was made public on 30 April.

The 26.7-meter-long vessel will be used, among other things, to combat illegal fishing in Sierra Leone's territorial waters, which is largely carried out by Chinese trawlers. This patrol boat was put into service on 24 April. The PB 106 type ship, which was renamed “Madam Yoko”, is equipped with a 14.5 mm caliber weapon. According to the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, “Sierra Leone has had great difficulty controlling illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in its territorial waters. This offshore capability will obviously reduce the risk and deter these crimes in our maritime domain
