An evaluation workshop was held on Thursday, March 09, 2023 at the headquarters of the National Agency for Supervision of Decentralized Financial Systems (ANSSFD) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This workshop is organized by the agency itself with the aim of raising awareness among SFD governing bodies on the establishment of an effective system to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism (LBC/FT).

The training workshop held last 9th is part of a project funded by Expertise France. This workshop is aimed at evaluating the system for combating money laundering and terrorist financing at the level of Decentralized Financial Systems, verifying the level of implementation of the provisions at the level of microfinance structures and, above all, measuring their difficulties and possible training needs. Indeed, in a context where several countries in the subregion are on the grey list of Groupe d' action financière (GAFI) , the Government of Benin has made commitments and produced a report on the fight against BL/FT.

For its part, ANSSFD played its part under the impetus of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. According to Rafiou Bello, the managing director of ANSSFD, “the issue of money laundering is a central issue today, a central issue because it conditions the mobilization of several sources of funding. When a country is singled out as a country with high risks of money laundering, the country may see funding flows shut off. The government has rightly taken the measure of the matter; each institution must play its part.”
