Agricultural actors, especially soybean producers, went to the Presidency of the Republic on 12 April 2023. They met with the head of government about the bad deal they are making because of the very low field price set by the authorities. The opinion was that the government is responsible for the harm to producers, but President Patrice Talon sees it differently

The President of the Republic of Benin has his idea of the disruptive agents that operate in the agricultural environment. According to him, it is speculators, these intermediaries who go around the fields to prepay for crops and resell them to exporters with their profit margins. According to the Head of State, “people are using the efforts we ask of our agricultural actors to make too much profit on their own. As you know very well, the intermediary actors between you and final consumers, those who come to negotiate agricultural products, who resell on the market or who resell for export or who sell agricultural products to those we call exporters; sometimes do not want to make any effort on their margins.” The latter believes that it is these intermediaries that pit producers against the government

The President of the Republic reiterated the validity of the efforts they are asking all Beninese to make, including agricultural actors, and then told them the good news of the increase in soybean prices at the end of the meeting.
