As part of the plastic waste project in Nigeria, Unilever and Societe Generale have finalized the first social impact bond backed by a commercial company. It is an agreement between the two structures.

Societe Generale is working with other companies and hopes to offer more agreements based on the results. The agreement addresses one of Unilever's main sustainability issues , style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif"> of increasing the use of recycled plastic in its chain of procurement. For Sandrine Enguehard, head of sustainable and positive impact finance at Societe Generale style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif">in Paris, “all customers, including companies need to think about it, to develop responsible actors in their supply chains.” Unilever aims to use 25% recycled plastic by 2025. It aimed to reach 20% in 2021 and has reached 19%. It also wants to collect and process more plastic than it sells by 2025.
