L'opérateur national de l' industrie Petroleum and Gazière du Kazakhstan and Sinopec have signed a framework agreement with the aim of developing a polyethylene project in the Atyrau region. The signing was made on 18 May in China.

The framework agreement between Kazakhstan and Sinopec was signed during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to China. According to this agreement Sinopec will participate in the project and advance it as a cooperative partner. The polyethylene project will be the largest natural gas and chemicals project in the region and the investment decision is expected to be finalized in 2024.
