The review of the Best project relating to access to electricity in the subregion started on Monday, March 6, 2023. It was a four-day meeting that ended on Thursday in the presence of representatives of the World Bank, ECOWAS and the Senegalese authorities in charge of finance and electricity. The discussions were based on the implementation of the Best project, which is now scheduled for the month of June.

After four days of discussion on the Best project in Senegal, stakeholders were optimistic, according to Bayaornibé Dabiré, the ECOWAS Commission's Director of Energy and Mines. Senegal is financed to the tune of 126 million CFA francs and the electrification of 1,000 localities in the southern zone, mainly in Ziguinchor, Tambacounda, Kolda and at the center level in Kaolack. Around 90,000 households will also be connected by the project. According to the Secretary General of Senelec, Pape Tony Gaye, “a new team has been set up and all measures are being taken to ensure the smooth running of this project as soon as possible. The objective is to start no later than June 2023, we are committed and ready to do so... ”.
