The President of the Republic Macky Sall welcomed the advance in terms of electricity power in Senegal. It was during the inauguration of the second power plant in Malicounda.

The Senegalese Head of State announced upon his accession to the supreme office that in 2012, the total installed electricity capacity was about 500 MW, 8% of which came from hydroelectricity. But according to him, the total installed capacity has tripled to more than 1,600 MW with a varied and balanced mix and even more promising prospects” today.

In addition, he describes the factors behind these performances, which, in his opinion, are nothing other than the fruit of a bold investment policy based on public/private partnership, which have made it possible to bridge the power gap. They thus put an end to the untimely power outages of the time. In terms of energy independence, he points out, the country has begun a decisive shift based on three pillars.
