Benin obtained about 60 billion CFA francs from the World Bank for the implementation of the Gbessoké Programme with the aim of strengthening the poverty reduction mechanism. The agreement signing ceremony took place on April 11, 2023, on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

The Gbessoké Program, also called highly social in Benin, will help support the most vulnerable households. Indeed, on 11 April, Minister of State Romuald Wadagni signed a financing agreement with the World Bank for 100 million dollars, or about 60 billion CFA francs. According to a press release dated 12 April, details have been given about this social safety net program, which aims to diversify social services in order to strengthen the poverty reduction system. According to the Ministry of Finance, “this involves the transformation of Social Promotion Centers into one-stop social protection services to improve the offer of complementary identification services, integration into the single social register, information and access to all products.”

noted that Gbessoké is a structural approach, in support of all ongoing initiatives, designed to reduce poverty and social inequalities by increasing the productive capacities of the most vulnerable households.
