On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, the World Bank and Togo signed a $60 million financing agreement for the regional solar emergency response project (RESPITE).

Sani Yaya, the minister of Economie and Finance, and Coralie Gevers, WB Director of Operations for Togo, signed a financing agreement for the implementation of the RESPITE project. According to Yaya, “this cooperation reflects the government's firm commitment to boosting people's access to clean and affordable energy. It symbolizes the country's desire Banque Mondiale to constantly support Togo towards the desired development.”

The objective of the project is to rapidly increase renewable energy capacity connected to the grid in Chad, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo and thus to strengthen regional integration in the electricity sector acute;. It will accelerate the achievement of the electrification strategy objectives set out in the 2025 Roadmap, in particular universal access to electricity in 2030 with an intermediate electrification rate of 75% expected in 2025.
