In the fourth quarter of 2022, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector contributed 16.22% to Nigeria's real GDP. This is according to the latest report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published on Wednesday 22 February.

The ICT sector is becoming essential for the Nigerian economy. In the third quarter of 2022, the sector contributed 15.35% to Nigeria's GDP. This performance is growing according to the National Bureau of Statistics, which indicates that in the fourth quarter of 2022, activities in the sector contributed 16.22% to the country's real GDP. This figure is also higher than its contribution of 15.21% in the same quarter of 2021. In nominal terms, ICT contributed 10.42% to total nominal GDP in the fourth quarter of 2022, up from 9.88% in the same quarter of 2021 and 9.58% in the previous quarter. For the year as a whole, the total contribution of ICT to the country's GDP was 16.51%, more than the 15.51% recorded in 2021.
