Benin actively participated in the 11th edition of the African Digital Transformation Conference (ATDA) in Geneva from 15 to 16 December 2022, through the presence of the Minister for Digital Affairs and Digitalization, Aurélie Adam Soulé Zoumarou. Occasionally, she offers a shock therapy for the fight against cybercrime.

On the theme “Cybersecurity: what are the challenges for your country? ”, the African countries present at this edition of the Digital Transformation Conference gave their views and proposals for probable solutions. Indeed, alongside her counterparts Désiré-Cashmir Kolongele Eberande from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mariam Hamadou Ali from Djibouti and Léon Juste Ibombo from Congo, Aurélie Adam Soulé Zoumarou contributed to the ministerial session. According to the Minister of Digital Affairs and Digitalization of Benin, no country can do it alone when it comes to cybersecurity issues.

Thus, she proposes, “cooperation between States seems extremely important regardless of domestic measures taken in isolation.” For her, countries need to establish frameworks for exchanges and cooperation that allow them to share information with each other. “Countries need to have frameworks that allow them to alert in the event of an incident and to help each other,” she added. Not to mention that cybercrime has taken on new dimensions all over the world and is compromising not only the safety and trust of people who use technology but also the reputation of countries.
