The French satellite operator Eutelsat, via its subsidiary OneWeb, announced on Thursday 13 June the inauguration of its ultra-modern earth station in Luanda-Bengo in Angola. The result of a partnership between OneWeb Angola and the Angolan Communications Authority (INACOM), this installation is an essential gateway between the low-Earth orbit constellation and terrestrial digital infrastructures in

southern Africa.

The ceremony brought together high-level personalities, including Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, Angolan Minister for Telecommunications; Joaquim Muhongo, President of INACOM (the regulatory authority); as well as Roz Griffiths, Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom. Afke Schaart represented Eutelsat Group during the ribbon cutting.

This station reinforces Eutelsat's commitment to bridging the digital divide, in support of the digital transformation priorities of urban and rural areas in Angola.

Already present in Angola via its geostationary satellites (GEO), Eutelsat is now expanding its footprint with an integrated multi-orbit offer thanks to its LEO network, resulting from the merger with OneWeb in September 2023. This hybrid cloud makes it possible to combine the large capacity of GEO with the low latency and rapid deployment of LEO.

The Luanda station also functions as a Satellite Network Portal (SNP), facilitating data transmission between satellites and terrestrial users. Initially launched in June 2024, the Luanda SNP (and others in Africa) is key to providing broadband service in areas that are poorly connected or poorly connected
