Ex-Justice Minister Constant Mutamba is accused of trying to embezzle $19 million in public funds. The Congolese prosecutor requested 10 years of forced labor against him

The former Congolese Justice Minister had the opportunity to speak last Wednesday, the day the pleadings closed. In particular, he said that the sole purpose of this judicial procedure was to remove him from the government. According to his lawyers, none of the funds from the Kisangani prison construction contract were misappropriated. They justify the ex-minister's good faith by the fact that he copied the payment order to the General Inspectorate of Finance as well as other supervisory bodies in order to track the movement of the funds transferred to the account of the construction company

The prosecutor considers that the transfer was made for an irregular contract awarded to, to quote him, “a front office”. He also requested that he be denied access to any official position for 10 years after he had served his sentence. The verdict of the trial has been set for 27 August 2025.
