Nigeria maintained its position as the third largest debtor in the World Bank's International Development Association, with outstanding bonds of $18.2 billion as of June 30, 2025.

The latest figures from the IDA financial statements show that Nigeria rose to third place in 2024, up from its previous position as the fourth largest borrower in 2023, and maintained this ranking until 2025. IDA offers loans with low or no interest rates as well as grants to the poorest countries in the world. Debt to IDA generally comes with long terms and generous deferred payments, but rising balances highlight the extent of Nigeria's financing needs and its degree of dependence on concessional

financing.
