The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) injected on August 17, nearly 3.507 billion FCFA into the WAEMU economy in order to fight against the perverse impacts of the covid-19 pandemic.

In sum, 90 commercial banks have bid on this 20th call for liquidity injection tenders. They were served at fixed interest rates of 2%, which happens to be the lowest key rate of the BCEAO.

All the liquidity needs expressed by the commercial banks due to the fixed interest rate were therefore fully covered by the central bank despite the fact that the nature of the operation was an auction.

Thus, for this 21st injection, the Togolese banking sector was refinanced at 220 billion FCFA, against 1077 billion FCFA for Côte d'Ivoire and 40 billion FCA for Guinea Bissau.
