The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah announced that Morocco is preparing to receive the experts of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in early 2023. This is in the context of the opening of the 35th General Assembly of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (GAFIMOAN).

The objective of the FATF experts' visit is to meet the commitments of the action plan approved between Rabat and the FATF in February 2021. Indeed, the FATF decided to keep Morocco on the “gray list” last October in order to remedy the strategic deficiencies presented by the Moroccan anti-money laundering regime.

When it had just emerged from the tax haven conference held by the European Union, Morocco was placed under surveillance in February 2021. According to the FATF, in February 2021, Morocco expressed political commitments to its branch in the Middle East and North Africa in order to strengthen the mechanism to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
